Our stigma index is at the president's residence!

Proud and happy to share that yesterday we presented The Stigma Index report to Ms. Michal Herzog,  First Lady of Israel.

The purpose of The Stigma Index is to reduce the use of terms from the world of mental health in an offensive manner, and to fight offensive discourse on social media.

This is the second year that we are conducting a comprehensive study in collaboration with "Ifat Media Research", examining the use of expressions such as 'psychopath' and 'mentally ill' among elected officials, social media users and the general public.

Offensive use of these types of terms deepens the existing stigma, causes injustice, and sometimes even worsens the mental state of thousands of people facing mental challenges and their families.

In the meeting participated: Dr. Hilla Hadas, CEO of Enosh, Tsufit Grant, President of Enosh, Attorney Alon Bachar – representative of  Enosh's board of directors , Avi Barssessat – CEO of Hollandia, donor and employer of people with psychosocial disabilities, Hezi Shmoeli – a rehabilitation instructor, service users and their family members.

Dr. Hilla Hadas:

"Families contact us all the time and ask us to create a correct discourse and fight  the offensive use of terms from the world of mental health. New data from the World Health Organization shows that one of three people will face a mental crisis during their lifetime and one of eight will be diagnosed psychiatrically. This data supports what we have been saying for years – mental health is everyone's story. Our report shows that there is a decrease in the use of offensive terms on social media, and we hope that the trend will continue. At the same time, we see a deterioration among elected officials and journalists, and I call on everyone to pay attention to how they express themselves."

Mrs. Michal Herzog:

"In these complex days we must be careful to use proper and appropriate language and not be drawn into using offensive and even violent words. That's why the stigma index presented by Enosh, which examines the use of terms from the worlds of mental health, is even more important now. I am very grateful to Enosh's team for standing up for the importance of the issue even more strongly these days."
